Evelien van Roemburg

Head of EU Office Oxfam International

Evelien van Roemburg is the Head of Office of the OI Advocacy & Engagement Office in Brussels. As such, she oversees a team of 30 colleagues, and leads on Oxfam’s multilateral strategy towards the EU & the OECD, including through research, policy development, funding, communications, and advocacy.

Evelien joined Oxfam in 2016. She was, amongst others, interim Deputy Director of Campaigns & Advocacy (overseeing the offices in DC, NY and Moscow, as well as leading the EU office), Oxfam’s Europe Migration Campaign Manager, and interim Programs & Influencing Director for the whole Africa region. She is an ardent advocate of refugee and migrant rights with over 14 years of experience.

Evelien has a PhD in international refugee law (2021) as well as three master’s degrees in law and political science from Columbia University, New York (2009) and the University of Amsterdam (2008 and 2010). She has lived in the Netherlands, Belgium, Kenya and the United States. She currently still lectures at the University of Amsterdam in refugee law and policies. She loves to garden, knit, ride her bike, read novels, and watch movies about outer space.
