Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic
Jan Marian is the current Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic, a position he has held since May 23, 2023. Prior to this appointment, he held various key positions within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Marian has extensive experience in Eastern European affairs, particularly regarding Russia, Belarus, and the broader Eastern Partnership. He has served as the head of departments focused on these regions, overseeing Czech foreign policy initiatives. Marian has also been responsible for addressing the growing threat of disinformation and developing strategic communication strategies. Before assuming his current role, he was the Special Envoy for Eastern Partnership. His academic background includes studies in Russian and East European affairs, and he has held academic positions. Marian’s professional journey includes postings at the Czech Permanent Representation to the European Union and the Czech Embassy in Moscow. Before joining the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he worked in the non-governmental sector. His fluency in multiple languages, including Russian, English, and German, has been instrumental in his diplomatic career.
