Executive Director, Global Education Network Europe (GENE)
Liam Wegimont is the Executive Director of GENE – Global Education Network Europe – a network of over 40 Ministries and Agencies with national responsibility for Global Education in European countries. Liam has been involved in in education for social change, local and global, in formal and non-formal education, for over 30 years – as teacher, youth worker, teacher-educator, researcher, curriculum developer, evaluator and policy-learning network initiator. Liam has been the School Principal of Mount Temple Comprehensive School in Dublin – a school increasingly devoted to Global Learning. Former Chair of the Irish National Committee for Development Education (1997-1999), Head of Global Education, Council of Europe (2000 – 2005). Liam co-founded GENE (www.gene.eu), and more recently co-initiated ANGEL – the Academic Network on Global Education Learning: a global network of researchers and policymakers in the field of Global Education. He is a member of the editorial Board of the International Journal of Development Education and Global Learning, Institute of Education, UCL, London; and of Sinergias, Portugal; and has been visiting lecturer in teacher education and global learning at Fredrich Alexander university, Erlangen Nurnberg and Trinity College, Dublin.
